I'm strangely attracted to these old smelters and mills scattered all over Southern Utah. A lot of these places have no trespassing signs posted but I'm still tempted to explore these dangerous and forgotten places. There's something eerie an unsettling about these rarely visited places. When most people passing through my country head straight to the national parks, I venture to places that tell the story of the landscape where I grew up. Everywhere I go I find the remnants of our civilization rotting away like ancient Rome and cannot help but think we are headed down the same path, yet we are still a young nation. These modern ruins though are no less fascinating than those ancient Roman ruins... at least to me.
